There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is against the law. Eight gambling dens are situated in a relatively small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort.
